Favorite Locations

I really prefer having your session at a location that holds special meaning to you or that you love.  However, if you just don’t have an idea of where you’d like to use, I’ve put together a list of some of the more popular places that I shoot at, along with photos to show you.  I’ll be continually updating this page as I discover new favorite locations and have new photos to add to existing location galleries.  As always, your input and suggestions are welcome – sometimes I find some of my favorite locations based on client recommendations!

Favorites (Shown with descriptions and photos below):

  • The Harrisburg Capitol
  • City Island
  • Italian Lake
  • Fort Hunter
  • Susquehanna River
  • Gettysburg
  • Chickies Rock
  • The Reservoir
  • The Vineyard

Here are a list of other locations I’ve researched, but have not shot at yet:

  • Elizabethtown College
  • Willow Park, Camp Hill
  • Ridley Park, Camp Hill
  • Siebert Park, Camp Hill
  • Longs Park, Lancaster
  • Dover Memorial Park
The Capitol

One of my favorite locations, and for good reason!  The capitol offers a nice, clean ‘elegant’ feel without being stuffy.  Gorgeous architecture, the fountain during warm months, a tree grove, flowers and cityscape.  This location works great for either morning or evening sessions.

City Island

Another very popular option, and very close to the Capitol.  With the architectural footbridge, cityscape, and river, City Island/Downtown Harrisburg offers a bit of everything!

Italian Lake

Italian Lake is a great location – Best for morning sessions!

Fort Hunter

Again, situated along the river, it offers wonderful varieties and views.  Fort Hunter gives more of a rustic feel and has a covered bridge.

Susquehanna River

This part of the river is used as a boat access, so we can get right down to the water.  If the river’s not too high, there are lots of rocks that are scattered throughout the water’s edge, lending to some really dramatic shots!  Train tracks just up the hill, and a small patch of woods and flowers.  This location is often paired with City Island.

Gettysburg

Not as creepy as it sounds!  Gettysburg is one of my all-time favorite locations, even though it’s a bit of a drive.  Some people opt to start at Sach’s covered bridge for a few shots (that’s really the only thing there, so if you’re not a fan of the bridge, skip this one).  Devil’s Den (lots of rocks and fields of queen anne’s lace), which sits down the hill from the ultimate sunset location – Little Round Top.  The view from here is stunning – especially in fall!  There’s even a little castle tower building that’s pretty cool!

Chickies Rock Trail

Chickies Rock Trail is on the mountain with a spectacular view of the river.  This is pretty much all woods scenery, with a view of the river at the end.

The Reservoir

This can be a really cool place, but it’s not always an ideal location.  The reservoir feeds into a creek through the woods (most times there’s some pretty intense algae on the water).  There’s also an open field there, but I’m not sure what grows in it for the majority of the year.

The Vineyard

I shot a wedding here, and just received permission to use it for other sessions as well.  Would be cool for engagements!  If you love wine, this is the place!
